টেলিভিশন উপস্থাপক ও সাংবাদিক মুন্নী সাহাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে।
শনিবার (৩০ নভেম্বর) রাতে রাজধানীর কারওয়ান বাজার থেকে তাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়।
এ বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) তেজগাঁও বিভাগের উপ-পুলিশ কমিশনার (ডিসি) মোহাম্মদ রুহুল কবীর খান।
জানা গেছে, কারওয়ান বাজার এলাকায় শনিবার সন্ধ্যার পর তাকে দেখে স্থানীয়রা ঘিরে ধরে। পরে পুলিশ এসে মুন্নী সাহাকে উদ্ধার করে হেফাজতে নেয়।
মোহাম্মদ রুহুল কবীর খান বলেন, ‘কারওয়ান বাজার একাকায় মুন্নী সাহাকে স্থানীয় লোকজন ঘিরে ফেলে। এরপর পুলিশ গিয়ে তাকে তেজগাঁও থানায় নেয়। সেখান থেকে ডিবি কার্যালয়ে নেয়া হয়েছে।’
এ বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে তেজগাঁও থানার ওসি মো: মোবারক হোসেন বলেন, ‘মুন্নী সাহার বিরুদ্ধে মামলা রয়েছে। তাকে গ্রেফতার দেখানো হয়েছে।’
বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলন চলাকালে ছাত্র-জনতা নিহতের ঘটনায় সাংবাদিক মুন্নী সাহার বিরুদ্ধে মামলা হয়। গত ৬ অক্টোবর মুন্নী সাহার সব ধরনের ব্যাংক হিসাবের তথ্য চায় বাংলাদেশ ফিন্যান্সিয়াল ইন্টেলিজেন্স ইউনিট (বিএফআইইউ)। চিঠিতে মুন্নী সাহার আমানত, ঋণ, ক্রেডিট কার্ড, ফরেন ট্রেড, এক্সচেঞ্জ, লকার ও অফশোর ব্যাংকিংয়ের তথ্য চাওয়া হয়।
গত জুলাই-আগস্টে ছাত্র-জনতার আন্দোলনে রাজধানীর যাত্রাবাড়ীতে গুলিতে শিক্ষার্থী নাঈম হাওলাদার (১৭) নিহতের ঘটনায় একটি মামলা হয়েছে। গত ২২ আগস্ট যাত্রাবাড়ী থানায় ওই মামলা করেন নিহত শিক্ষার্থীর বাবা মো: কামরুল ইসলাম।
সেই মামলায় সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনাসহ একাধিক মন্ত্রী-এমপি, আওয়ামী লীগ, যুবলীগ, ছাত্রলীগ সদস্য এবং পুলিশ ও র্যাব কর্মকর্তাদের সাথে যে সাতজন সাংবাদিককে আসামি করা হয়, তাদের একজন মুন্নী সাহা।
উল্লেখ্য, ভোরের কাগজ দিয়ে মুন্নী সাহার সাংবাদিকতা শুরু। সেখান থেকে তিনি যান একুশে টেলিভিশনে। এরপর যোগ দেন এটিএন বাংলায়। এটিএন নিউজের শুরু থেকেই তিনি যুক্ত ছিলেন। মালিকপক্ষের সাথে বিরোধের জেরে ২০২৩ সালের ৩১ মে মুন্নী সাহা এটিএন নিউজ থেকে পদত্যাগ করেন।

Television presenter and journalist Munni Saha has been arrested.
He was arrested from the capital's Caravan Bazaar on Saturday (November 30) night.
This has been confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan.
It is reported that locals surrounded him after Saturday evening in Karwan Bazar area. Later the police came and rescued Munni Saha and took her into custody.
Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan said, 'Munni Saha was surrounded by local people in Karwan Bazar alone. Then the police went and took him to Tejgaon police station. From there it was taken to the DB office.
When asked about this, Tejgaon police station OC Md Mobarak Hossain said, 'There is a case against Munni Saha. He was shown arrested.'
A case was filed against journalist Munni Saha in connection with the killing of students during the anti-discrimination student movement. On October 6, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sought all bank account information of Munni Saha. The letter sought details of Munni Saha's deposits, loans, credit cards, foreign trade, exchange, lockers and offshore banking.
A case has been registered regarding the shooting death of student Naeem Howladar (17) in the capital's Jatrabari during the July-August movement of the students. On August 22, the deceased student's father Md. Kamrul Islam filed the case at Jatrabari police station.
Munni Saha is one of the seven journalists accused in that case along with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, several ministers-MPs, Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League members and police and RAB officials.
It should be noted that Munni Saha's journalism started with Bhor paper. From there he went to Ekushey Television. Then joined ATN Bengal. He was associated with ATN News from its inception. Munni Saha resigned from ATN News on 31 May 2023 due to a dispute with the owners.
